This song could very well be one of the last songs you'll hear by Girlicious as the band has been reduced to one member, and they didn't have too much success as a band; I'm not sure if just one girl can survive. Still, in the present day we've got "Hate Love" so let's look at that now. The most striking thing about the song is that it sounds very similar to some other singer like Rihanna and Beyonce. And I'm not talking about a few borrowed details, I mean at points you could confuse the song for Beyonce's "Halo."
"If I Were a Boy" and "Umbrella" and other songs that have been spliced into this track are all good so the tune is still good in the song, but it's still quite distracting. So it comes together to make a pretty catchy song, yet it's annoying that they would have to steal other people's music to make that. However, on the other hand there is some creativity in this song. The style is still something unique and at other points the song does sound more original. If the entire thing had been like this, it might have been a pretty good song.
Musically the song is quite creative, combining a variety of sounds. There is a recurring electronic sounds in the background which is mixed with a more urban sound. Vocally the sound is mostly pop with a bit of a soul/urban feel. The lyrics are somewhat interesting in a relationship context. The song is sung with enough emotions that it doesn't sound fake, but there could be more.
Overall the doesn't offer too much. It's a catchy sort of thing with a creative sound, but had it been more original it would have defintely been much better. Personally I don't think it's enough to keep Nichole Cordova, the last remaining member, afloat, which is a shame because I believe it could have been so much more.
