Selena Gomez has yet to do anything super to seperate herself from the rest of the Disney Stars, and "Who Says?" doesn't seem to be the song that'll do that. Selena's problem is that she's boring and she doesn't have anything to keep people interested, which this song clearly emphasizes.
The song's message is one that we've all heard before, Be yourself, you're beautiful in you're own way, you know what I'm talking about. This theme has been present in "Just the Way You Are," "Perfect," "Firework," and "Born this Way" so why is Selena trying to pump this idea further? Some of the bigger artists were able to put their own spin on the idea through their songs, but "Who Says?" is just the same thing we've heard before. It's a nice message, but it needs to spaced out a bit before we all get sick of it; it probably would have been better for Selena to release this song later.
For a lot of songs with lame lyrics you can say, "At least it's got a nice tune," sadly not this time. The song is a little catchy, but not something particularily danceable. It's a real shame because we've seen that Selena can make a pretty ice dance track with "Naturally," and "Who Says?" could have at least been been made a little more interesting if it was more dancy.
Selena Gomez and the Scene have really just been hanging on by a thread with both "Round and Round" and "A Year Without Rain" not doing substanially great, "Who Says?" could be their third strike.
